Destination comparison
Jaipur vs Udaipur for a Destination Wedding
Updated 8 November 2026 · by the Valiant Events planning team
Choose Jaipur if your guest list is large or most guests travel from Delhi; choose Udaipur if the setting matters more than scale. Both cities share the same season, October to March, and on our planning bands they cost about the same: from about ₹1 crore for an intimate two-day wedding to ₹7–10 crore for 300–500 guests over four days. What separates them is size, travel and setting.
Jaipur gives you more room to grow. We work with 29 venues there, ten of them with 150 rooms or more, and InterContinental Jaipur and The Leela Palace Jaipur host 1,600 to 2,500 guests. It is also easier to reach: four to five hours by road from Delhi, and the busier airport of the two.
Udaipur trades scale for scenery. Its lake palaces, such as The Oberoi Udaivilas, The Leela Palace and Taj Fateh Prakash Palace, have 65 to 82 rooms, so larger weddings move to hill resorts like Fairmont Udaipur Palace (311 rooms) and The Ananta (243 rooms). Fewer direct flights mean guest travel needs planning earlier.
The short answer
Choose Jaipur if…
you are hosting 300 or more guests, want most of them under one roof, or most of your guests travel from Delhi and North India. Jaipur's city palaces and the resorts at Kukas give you more choice at every budget, and getting everyone there is simpler.
Choose Udaipur if…
you want the lake in every photograph and can keep the main events to about 150 to 250 guests, or are happy to hold the largest functions at a hill resort. Book guest flights early: Udaipur has fewer direct routes than Jaipur.
Jaipur for scale and easy travel; Udaipur for the lakes and a more intimate feel.

Questions couples ask
Is a wedding in Jaipur cheaper than in Udaipur?
Not by much. On our planning bands both cities cost about the same for the same guest count and number of days: from about ₹1 crore for 50–100 guests over two days to ₹7–10 crore for 300–500 guests over four days. The exception is Udaipur's lake palaces: they have fewer than 100 rooms and very high demand, so peak dates there are among the most expensive in Rajasthan.
Which city is better for a wedding with 500 or more guests?
Jaipur. InterContinental Jaipur hosts up to 2,500 guests, The Leela Palace Jaipur up to 1,600 and Ananta Spa & Resort up to 1,500. In Udaipur, The Ananta and Fairmont Udaipur Palace host up to 2,000 guests, but most lake palaces top out at 160 to 250.
Which is easier for wedding guests to reach?
Jaipur. It is four to five hours by road from Delhi, and its airport has more direct flights. Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport has fewer routes, so book guest flights early, especially for November to February dates.
Can we combine Jaipur and Udaipur in one wedding?
Yes, but it adds a travel day. The cities are about 400 km apart, six to seven hours by road or about an hour by direct flight. Some families hold a welcome event in one city and the wedding in the other, but for most guest lists one city keeps costs and logistics simpler.
